The Sagittarius Zodiac sign belongs to the element fire and the mutable quality. Sagittarius is an impatient force, escaping anything stagnant and any mental or physical confinement. But in this case, it's the characteristic of independence, the ability to unroot and move at any moment, as if unattached to the social surroundings. The Sagittarius Zodiac sign doesn't follow anyone, and simply doesn't care for being followed either. It's all about going one's own way. The symbol for the Sagittarius horoscope sign is that of the centaur, the legendary creature who was half man, half horse. The centaurs were famous for their archery, which also connects them to the Sagittarius Zodiac sign.

Sagittarius CompatibilityThe Sagittarius horoscope sign, the independent, belongs to the element fire, which is that of intense activity. So do Aries and Leo, but that doesn't necessarily mean Sagittarius is particularly compatible with them - they need to agree on common goals. Nor for that matter is the Sagittarius Zodiac sign always incompatible with, say, the water signs Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, although they are quite different.
